this was taken from somewhere else… I’m just moving it here for completeness…
It can be quite frustrating, their isn’t a huge team of programmers dealing with all the problems getting free coke, and developing killer applications, there are at best three of us, mostly being distracted by administration problems with the network, and fighting to get some sort of project plan developed for even the simplest of systems.
On the plus side, we get to develop on new technologies, I and at least couple of other people in the department believe in striving for excellence in our field, we can all just install the VLE?s and Wireless gateways, and then IT in every university would be the same, but if people aren’t striving for new ways to do things then nothing would ever move forward. So to that end we fight, and it has to be said quite often lose, to develop new and exiting products that embrace education and allow for us to provide a service that is above the norm. (Gosh that turned into a mission statement of a paragraph)
So I develop with many tools, C++/C, Visual Basic/Script, Java/Script, SQL, and my current favourite C#, if I do start wondering of into code examples in this blog then they will be in C# don’t you worry. Right I should actually do some work now. I’ve got an Active Directory schema to extend.
