working for pleasure

I don’t know if it’s a sad reflection on my job, but I have gotten a lot of pleasure out of coding the little JavaScript library for this web site, over the last few days.

Given that my job is programming you would think that I would come home and do other things, but I don’t. I think that is because I actually don’t get to do much programming at work, well not creative programming anyway. Currently I work consists of writing code to convert XML documents to fixed width text documents, not exactly taxing.

The library isn’t the most complex thing in the world, but at least it let me engage my brain, and wrap it around the odd, programming problem. You see I quite like programming, and in theory I am very luck, my job is something I enjoy doing. That’s the reason I think you go to university. Not for the money, but so you end up in a job you like, and given I went to university and I don’t like my job. I have to question my own logic.
